Fed up of trying to run faster?

I remember back in 2012 when I decided to run my first marathon.  I had 4 x  running goals:

How Hypnosis can help you reach your sports goals

Listening to hypnosis recordings helped me reach my own full marathon goal of finishing in less than 4.30hrs. If I can do it so can you!

  • Run 5km in under 30 mins
  • Run 10km in under 1 hour
  • Run a half marathon in under 2 hrs
  • Run a full marathon in under 4.30 hrs

The trouble being,I struggled to run faster back then.  Even though I was a hypnotherapist and mind coach.  It seemed that no matter how much I tried, my little legs wouldn’t run faster.  I saw others in my running group achieve personal best results and wondered what was wrong with me?  I read books on how to run faster, but something was in the way of success.  Then a life event happened something that created a change within me and as a result  I achieved  the most ‘personal best’ results award for 2013 at the running club.

What’s in the way?

In April 2012 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, this was a bit of an annoying interruption in my marathon training schedule to say the least.

Fortunately, although I had two cancers, one in the duct and another more invasive, the cancers were small and easily removed.  Shortly after surgery I was back and raring to go even if the first 5km felt like a marathon.  I soon sped up,  finishing a half marathon in August, four months after surgery, not yet in under two hours, but less than 12 months later, I completed the Barossa Half Marathon in 1 hr 57 mins & 58 seconds.

I never realised this was possible till I did it!

How Good it feels to achieve a goal!

I achieved  my marathon goal of under 4.30 hours in 2015, on the third attempt.   I look back now with a personal knowing of what changed for me,  which means I can help you achieve your own goals.

The real problem isn’t coming from your legs, your nutrition, too much training or too little training,  the right training or having a coach.  Even though all of this is important.

I learned the hard way,  after running my second marathon, limping over the finish line in 5hrs & 6 mins.  I had deluded myself into thinking 7 weeks was long enough to train for the event after completing a marathon the year before.

I ignored the small voice of wisdom inside my head saying ‘no Ange, you need longer to train,’ because I wanted to run and ignored the signs.  I wasn’t  prepared physically for the distance and anyone could have predicted the result, It was only through sheer determination that I crossed the line in one piece with only a slightly deflated ego.

However, if you have done the training, sorted your nutrition, stay hydrated and still feel stuck, the real reason you are not achieving results has gotta be coming from the thoughts you are paying attention to moment to moment.

The Answer

We live in the feeling of thought in the moment   The trouble is we don’t realise how our thinking is getting in the way of our success.

I had been working as a hypnotherapist, NLP trainer and coach for years and still missed what was in front of my eyes. Because, we all have blind spots, we don’t see the obvious.

In the past, in a way of reframing experiences,  I  used my skill as a hypnotist to utilise the imagination, being the  language of the unconscious mind.

Whilst recovering from surgery I binge watched all the StarWars movies and decided to imagine being zapped with Jedi Power at each of the thirty rounds of radiation therapy.  I didn’t suffer from the horrendous fatigue I had been told about.  Instead, I was able to gain a 10km pb at the Caloundra foreshore fun run, a hilly event and was astonished to finish the race in less than an hour, therefore smashing one of my running goals.

Back then, I thought my skill as an NLP’er  was responsible for changing  the structure of thought inside my head, I thought I was pretty clever in how I restructured the experience.  Since then, I realise something  deeper coming from innate wisdom.

Where did the thought come from,   to utilise my imagination and be  zapped with Jedi Power?

Thought is the missing link!

What does this mean?

In way of explanation, what changed for me after breast cancer was a change of thought.

Yes I still wanted to achieve my running results, but how I saw the world had changed, I was looking through new eyes, hearing through new ears.  I was alive and grateful to be healthy enough to be out running.  Instead of having a head full of noisy thinking, my mind seemed quiet, I was truly grateful to be alive and in this state of quite clarity, I began to see results, which seemed to come easily.

I did it! 42.2k completed!

This is the secret to success, for you and every other human being, whether the goals are sports related or in any other area of life.  If you are stuck, you have been looking in the wrong direction.

It can’t be that simple, can it?

Do you ride a bike? can you remember a time you couldn’t ride a bike? or swim? or ski?

If you have learned any of these skills throughout our life,  you will understand what I mean when I say you can’t learn how to ride a bike, swim or ski by reading a book.

You can learn and know intellectually how to ride a bike, but the result comes from doing the riding, it comes from the sense of balance, the knowing to steer, to turn the pedals, you keep trying till you have your balance and then you are off.  When you can ride you don’t forget, you can be a little rusty, like me when I first put on a pair of ski’s five years after my last winter vacation but you can’t go back to not knowing.

What I am pointing to is like riding a bike, its a feeling, a sensation, something that you do that can’t be taught from a book, but when you know you know.

My job as a mind coach is to steer you in a direction so that you gain insight and clarity for yourself, so life becomes easier, you might lose sight of the truth now and again, like losing balance when riding a bike, you will fall off now and again, you might even have a nasty fall, break a few bones, but you will be still be able to  ride the bike when you recover.

I can help you

Not in a way you expect, I am not your sports coach, my job isn’t to give you tools and strategies, ( I can do) but more and more with clients these days, my job is about really listening for your  innate wisdom and pointing you in that direction where you gain your own clarity, direction and results.  Sometimes it takes one or two sessions but I know from working regularly with my own coach, that the most benefit comes from regular conversation.

How?

If you found yourself drawn to this page, you are looking for answers, so the next step is for us to have a conversation.

Alex was stuck for a while last year in a head full of noisy thinking, she is now smashing her goals.  Watch her video testimonial here:  [trx_video url=”<iframe width=”640″ height=”564″ src=”https://player.vimeo.com/video/241586239″ frameborder=”0″ allowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen webkitAllowFullScreen></iframe>” ratio=”16:9″ autoplay=”off” top=”inherit” bottom=”inherit” left=”inherit” right=”inherit”]

The next step is to drop me a line with your preferred email address, I will then forward my email diary for you to choose a convenient time. (the diary automatically changes to your timezone) Once this is confirmed I will either set up a Skype chat or forward a link to a Zoom meeting room.  Zoom seems to be a bit more stable than Skype from Australia.  You can easily download the free Zoom application.

When this is set up I will be waiting to connect with you in our online meeting room. Easy peasy!
