Hypnosis For Runners

As writing this post I am feeling a little sorry for myself.

My running was going sooooo well too!

I am training for the Gold Coast, Australia Marathon on the 1st July 2012 and increasing my distance, so far I have increased to 20k.
Unfortunately, like many people before me, I got a little enthusiastic with my training, sprints, hill sprints, beach running and much more, which is great... as long as you rest your body in-between sessions.
WARNING: if you ignore the little niggles when you know you are overtraining, eventually your body will object, as mine did 10 days ago.

Benefits of Hypnosis/NLP in Sport

Its that time of the year again here in Australia....
It seems like every man and his dog is out running around Mooloolaba, preparing for a race or a Triathlon.

With this in mind I decided to re-post this article from my friend and colleague, Alistair Horscroft's site as it explains the benefits of Hypnosis and NLP to help you improve your performance whatever your chosen sport.

Then check out the rest of my site where you will notice that you can experience:

Why I Run

Why do I run?

My first intention was to get a little fitter and lose some body fat.

Eighteen months later and I am still running.  My reasons now are many, for instance, I am 52 years old and had begun to notice a few aches and pains in my joints, particularly my right hip joint and used to have aching feet and ankles when I took my first few steps out of bed in a morning.
This has all disappeared, I now bounce out of bed early every morning without any though of aches or pains in any form.

Amazing Changes

Hello!

How quickly time flies when we are having fun...

I can hardly believe that I have been back home on the Sunshine Coast for six weeks now!  It seems like only yesterday that I was leaving the UK and my family there to return home.

When I sit for a while and find my mind wandering.. it is easy to allow myself to miss my family but then I catch myself and realise it is my choice to wallow in my misery by reacting to the thought going through my mind ... or...

I can recognise the thought and acknowledge it and then move on to other thoughts, such as.

Helmsley 10k

Time is passing quickly here in the UK and the weather has been glorious for the time of year, unfortunately it is cooler today and most of the UK appear to have 'Royal Wedding Frenzy' hoping for fine weather for William & Kate's wedding tomorrow.
Sarah is working tomorrow and Harvey and I have been invited to a street party! yeh!

Even though the time is passing quickly, I am out running on a regular basis and even ran a 10k race on Sunday, it was in a country town called Helmsley and the route was a challange with the first 3k being a continuous hill climb, I am proud to report that I finished in a respectable 1hr 5mins & 28 seconds :-)

Freezing to Sweltering

I can hardly believe it is already the 22nd january, I am writing today to update on my running efforts although I feel compelled to mention the devastating floods that have been occuring all around us here in Queensland.

The Sunshine Coast has been spared from damage although we have had a few flooded areas.  I have managed to continue running, avoiding the flooded areas and managing to get a few soakings from the rain that seems to be forever falling out of the sky.

I actually like the rain.

Snow!!!!

I have been in the UK for a couple of weeks now and the weather has been a challange!

The first week was magical as we were staying at Center Parcs which is a european holiday resort, for those of you who have not been there or heard of the resort, holiday chalets are nestled within a woodland forest with wildlife in abundance, including squirrals and many kinds of birds.  Santa Clause was in residence along with his real live reindeer!
Harvey (my grandson) went to see him and came away with a very nice present whilst also giving him his list for christmas eve.

I did it, 10k!!!!!

I am so happy to report that I achieved my goal of running 10k this morning.

The weather was overcast and cooler than it has been recently  and the wind was enough to cool my running partner, Janette and myself down without it affecting our pace too much.

Today was my last day in Australia before travelling to a cold and snowy Yorkshire, in the UK to spend christmas with my Daughter and Grandson.
I am hoping to continue running although It might be more appropriate to be skiing!!
and hopefully I will be reporting about my experiences of running in a cold climate.

Frustration!

A running update...
As part of my calf recovery, I decided to take the dogs out for a run/walk session, my thinking was that having Sasha & Rosie with me would encourage me to spend some time walking as I am in a hurry to get back to running quickly!

The frustration came along when Rosie, who can run like lightening on the beach decided to go into slow mode when I wanted to run, whilst Sasha was bounding along ahead full of energy and enjoying the experience imensely.  This left me running along with my body at a strange angle, on the slant, with one arm outstretched in front with the other arm outstretched behind, not an exercise I recommend at any time.

Aches, Pains and Euphoria!

I know ....
Its been a while since the last post.

Since beginning running in June I have had a few niggles and aches in my body, such as a sore back and a very tight sore right Quad (thigh muscles) and over the last three weeks, my left calf muscle became increasinginly painful. and I also had sore lumps in my armpit.

Last Monday at training I struggled to comlplete the sprints as my energy level was so low and my calf hurt to the point that I could hardly place it on the ground.  So i took my self off to the Doctor for blood tests and then on to the physio to look at my aching calf muscle.

Chilling Out ...

Its Tuesday again already and I am finally confirming that, Yes! I did run  8k with lazy runners on Saturday :-)
I am very proud of my achievement and look forward to my next goal of 10k in the not too distant future.

My friends and I spent a very enjoyable weekend camping at Kenilworth, the weather was unexpectedly warm and sunny which gave us an opportunity to swim in the Mary River. A therapeutic way to ease my aching muscles.

We all live such busy lives these days and it is important to sometimes just get away and chill out.

Goals

Its been a few days since my last post and I have noticed how much looser my jeans are becoming since starting running with The Lazy Runners.

Running and training with a group has been the motivation that I needed to change my thinking around my capablities around running.  My goal is to complete a 10k, then the Gold Coast 1.2 marathon with a Marathon in the distance on my timeline!.

I know that with training on a regular basis that I will achieve my goals.  I also know that the goals are giving me an aim and that my fitness levels are increasing all the time.

7K! :-)

I woke this morning to the sound of the wind howling outside and the rain lashing against the windows.

As soon as the alarm sounded i found myself up and out of bed, dressing in my running gear and preparing to surrender myself to the elements outside.

I seriously thought that nobody would turn up, and yes the numbers were down but there was still a few of us there looking forward to the endorphin rush after completing our exercise.

A nice and steady start helped me to continue in a rhythm, i found myself drifting off into a trance thinking of my day ahead and visualising my workshop going really well.

Oh Dear!!!!

Oh Dear!

Bad News...
I did ensure that Si had set the alarm last night.... and he had....but :-(

I woke this morning to the dogs barking and Janette standing at the door waiting for me (The alarm was set for Monday to Friday, and today is Saturday! Duh!!!)

Good News...
I quickly got changed and we headed down to Maroochydore to join the group :-)

Good News...
I trained on Thursday Morning  and at the time i thought i was going to die, sprinting up and down a sports field, for what seemed a distance that went on forever!

My New Friend

This Morning Was a beautiful morning, especially for running along the esplanade from Mooloolaba to Alexandra Headlands.  The air was damp and cool but not raining.

Today was a big day for me, as I ran alone for the first time since July.

My first thought when i knew I would be training on my own was to just do the kilometres on my treadmill.

Then yesterday I was introduced to my new friend, I have named her 'Zola' as she is my inspiration and motivation to go out and run.
