Neuro Linguistic Programming
Often known as NLP

NLP was Co developed in the 1970's by John Grinder and Richard Bandler.

Richard was a student at a university in Santa Cruz in the States and John was a Tutor.

They got together with a group of friends and had fun whilst learning about how the mind works.  They were particularly interested in excellence. In other words, they looked for the difference in what made one person excellent while others were average.

They studied and modelled Milton Erickson, a famous hypnotist at the time, Virginia Satir, a well know Family Therapist and many other successful people.

Whilst doing this they discovered the various ways in which we make up our map of the world, ''our reality'', and that each one of us has our own version of reality depending on how we distort, delete and generalise in our minds.

We have to delete some information as we would go crazy if everything that was going on around us was available at any one time, we would go into overload.  Each individual is unique in how they  distorts, generalise and delete information in different ways.  For example, i could ask 3 people to close their eyes and think of a dog and then to tell me what dog they had pictured.
I would most likely receive 3 different answers such as Labradour, Poodle, Retriever.
Each person would have searched inside their mind to find the meaning of dog, the meaning would be depend on the individual experience.

Richard Bandlers description of NLP is that it is an attitude and methodology that left behind a trail of techniques.

Over the years some people have become confused about what NLP is and believe it to be a series of techniques.
It is true that the techniques are very useful and help to create change in amazing and wonderful ways. but to realise that NLP is much more than that.

I am fortunate and happy to confirm that i have trained with both Co-Founders of NLP.  My first ever training in NLP was in LONDON, UK, with Richard Bandler and since moving to AUSTRALIA I have been able to train with John Grinder.

NLP is a tool that is used in many areas of life, it is especially useful in the business world and I personally use it along with hypnosis to create dynamic change in my clients lives.
